F. Peter Cundill, FCA, CFA

F. Peter Cundill, FCA, CFA is the Principal of The Cundill Group. After positions at Greenshields Inc. in Montreal and the Yorkshire Group in Vancouver, Peter became president of AGF Vancouver Investment Management Ltd., a position he held from 1972-1975. The All-Canadian Venture Fund was formed in 1967. In 1975, Vanan Financial Management Ltd. took over management of this fund.  Peter Cundill was a partner in the company and in April 1977, the fund was renamed the Cundill Value Fund.

In 1977, Peter founded his own firm, Peter Cundill & Associates Ltd. ("PCA"). In 1998, PCA entered into a strategic partnership with Mackenzie Financial Corporation ("MFC") to serve the needs of Canadian mutual fund shareholders.  Peter and his team now manage USD$14.2 billion of assets.

Peter graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1960.  Peter is a Chartered Accountant (1963) and a Chartered Financial Analyst Charter Holder (1968). Throughout his career, Peter has earned many distinctions. In December 2001, Peter was presented with the Analysts' Choice Career Achievement Award as the greatest mutual fund manager of all time. In January 2004, he was elected to be a Fellow (FCA) by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia (ICABC) for service to the profession and the community. 

Brian L. McDermott

Brian L. McDermott is the Executive Chairman of Cundill Investment Research Ltd. ("CIR").  Brian was the Chairman, President and Sole Director of Peter Cundill & Associates, Inc., ("PCI") a former Delaware corporation (1994-2005).  Prior to that, Brian served as President of Peter Cundill & Associates Ltd. (Vancouver) from 1988 to 1994 when he was appointed Chairman.

Brian received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from the University of British Columbia in 1963.  Brian has completed courses I and II of Canadian Investment Finance (1964).  In 1999, Brian obtained Series 63 and 65 licenses from the NASD.

 

Lisa M. Pankratz, CA, CFA

Lisa M. Pankratz, CA, CFA is a Director and President of Cundill Investment Research Ltd. ("CIR") and the Chief Compliance Officer for all operating companies comprising The Cundill Group; Lisa was the Secretary and Treasurer of Peter Cundill & Associates , Inc. (“PCI”) from 2002 – 2005. Lisa presently holds the position of Director of CanWest Global Communications Corp. in Winnipeg and serves on the Audit and Pension committees. Lisa has held the position of Director for the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia ("ICBC") since July 2001 and serves on the Investment and Audit Committees and previously the Governance Committee (2001-2004).  Prior to joining CIR, Lisa worked as an independent corporate consultant and advisor from 2000-2002.    Lisa was the Turnaround Specialist/Chief Financial Officer for Evans Forest Products Limited, Vancouver from 1997-1999. Between 1994-1996 Lisa worked as an Investment Banker with Bankers Trust & Swiss Bank Corporation, Vancouver and Senior Manager, Corporate Finance (most senior position attained) with Ernst & Young, Toronto between 1985-1993. 

In 2005, Lisa was awarded the Peak Award for Performance and Excellence from the Association of Women in Finance.

Lisa received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with Honors from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario (1985).   Lisa is also a Chartered Accountant (1987) and a Chartered Financial Analyst Charter Holder (1996).  Lisa is registered with the British Columbia and Ontario Securities Commissions.


 

John R. Talbot is Vice President, Secretary and a Director of Peter Cundill & Associates (Bermuda) Ltd 1984. ("PCAB") and associated Bermuda companies, including Cundill International Company Ltd. 1985 ("CIC"), and Cundill Yen Fund (Bermuda) Ltd.1989 ("CYF").  Prior to joining PCAB, John worked for The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited, Hamilton, Bermuda from 1956-1986, ending as Deputy General Manager of the Bank's wholly-owned subsidiary, The Bank of Butterfield Executor & Trustee Company Limited - now Butterfield Trust (Bermuda) Limited.  Between 1988-1998, John worked as Managing Director of Roche International Ltd., Bermuda - an indirectly wholly-owned subsidiary of Roche Holdings AG of Basel, Switzerland, prior to retiring in 1998. He remains a Director of Roche International Ltd. and several related companies.

John received a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University, Montreal (1959).

Margaret Vrabel is a Director of Cundill Investment Research Ltd. (“CIR”).   Margaret joined the Cundill Group in 1977 and has held various offices with the Group.  Between April 2000–June 2001, Margaret was Vice President at Mackenzie Financial Corporation (“MFC”).  From September 1998–April 2000, Margaret was Vice-President, Finance; Corporate Secretary and Director of the Cundill Funds Inc.  (formerly Peter Cundill & Associates Ltd.).  Between April 1977-September 1998, Margaret was Vice President, Finance; Treasurer and Director of Peter Cundill & Associates Ltd.  Between September 1976-April 1977, Margaret held the position of Accountant with Vanan Financial Management Ltd.
